Giving A Good Massage

Edited by M. B. Aria

Here are some useful and practical tips in the aret of giving a good massage ...

A good massage is a matter of timing, control and feeling. The person giving the massage must be aware of the body and the sensitivity of each individual that they will be massaging. Without this in mind, the masseuse can perform a massage that will not only be uncomfortable, but that could do some serious bodily harm.

But what if you want to give your partner a massage or help a friend ease the pain of an injury? Maybe you would like your partner to help you relax after a day of work? You can carry out your own massage therapy with some care. Here are some tips for massage therapy at home:

Many people head straight for the massage oils when they are ready to give a massage, but this is a critical error. While massage oils are a good idea and an admirable notion, the best tools of the masseuse are their hands. Without having smooth, clean hands giving the massage all is lost.

Hands should be in a presentable manner to the person who is receiving the massage. There is nothing worse than having someone's dirty, unkempt hands giving a massage. Fingernails should be kept clean and trimmed, so as to not scratch the client. Hands should also be warm when giving the massage.

Posture is important, as is the positioning of the person getting the massage. The receiver should be in a position that allows for complete massage relaxation. This typically means that they are lying comfortably and not bent to one side. A pillow under the ankles is typically a good idea, as that helps balance the remainder of the body and does not put too much pressure on the legs. Massage relaxation is of vital importance.

Following careful instructions will allow for a good massage. Hands should be clean, fingernails should be trimmed and filed, warm hands should be used, and a clean room should be provided. The recipient of the massage should not be over-lubricated with massage oils, and the muscles being massaged should always be relaxed. Following those simple but essential tips will provide for an excellent and professional massage.
