A Fast Growing Opportunity In Massage Therapy Jobs

How many people do you know would willingly pay someone to rub them the wrong way? As recently as 2005, only 330 states had training and licensing requirements for someone to work in massage therapy jobs. As the population ages, more and more people are learning the benefits of massage and the medical community is becoming more ready to accept massage therapy jobs as part of a person’s overall health.

Beginning massage therapy jobs may pay about $30,000 a year, depending on the location with some of the highest massage therapy jobs paying twice that amount. On average in the United States a massage therapist can earn between $35 and $55,000, again depending on the location. As more people are looking to receive massage therapy, the demand for qualified individuals has made this one of the hottest careers in the past two years.

Spa owners and those in the health spa industry have seen a continuous rise in request for massage therapy as it appears to offer more than relief from aching muscles and tired joints. Many massage recipients claim reduced stress levels and better playing energy when they receive a massage before participating in a sporting event. There are some massage therapy jobs that even recommend the therapy for pets.

Older Population Seeking Better Wellness

As baby boomers begin to reach retirement age, they still want to feel an overall wellness that medications just are not able to supply. Treating themselves to a day at the spa has quickly turned into getting a massage in the privacy of their own home. While most massage therapy jobs are located in established businesses, others have found more lucrative massage therapy jobs by offering to go to the clients.

There are some chiropractors that recommend a potential patient see a message therapist before having skeletal adjustments made, if only to get them mentally prepared for the treatment. There are also massage therapy jobs that help the insurance industry deal with patients following an accident, trying to loosen muscles and aching joints that provide relief without the added expense of chiropractic services.

How long massage therapy jobs will continue to grow is uncertain, but most experts project the openings to be available for the next several years. If the time comes with interest begins to wane, good massage therapists will surely continue to be in high demand. With most licensing requirements calling for 500 hours of education and training, massage therapy jobs can offer a great career for those who can qualify.
